Daisy & Chester’s Wedding

What happens when two diminuative equines fall madly in love with each other?

Well….eventually they get married and live happily ever after, of course! For Chester and Daisy it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. It took a few months of seeing each other across the fence, in different pastures, before they came to recognize their soul mates.

(Minister Guiseppe and his human translator Tim, with the Maid of Honor, Little Princess having her flowers and ribbons adjusted before the Ceremony. Plenty of time for a little snack!)

At first they barely spared the other a sideways glance. Soon enough, they just could not take their eyes off of each other. It was a bit confusing, because you see, Daisy already had a live-in boyfriend! But how serious was the relationship between the miniature horse Daisy and her miniature Sicilian donkey boyfriend Domino? They have been sharing a stall together for some time, but can two different species of Equine be truely in love? Or were they just really good friends and roommates? When Chester first started dating Daisy, poor Domino was beside himself with grief. He moped around with his nose close to the ground, and his long ears flopping loosely to the sides of his handsom white and brown head. His best friend (girlfriend?) just didn’t seem to want him hanging around with her anymore! All she wanted was to be with her soulmate, Chester.

(Best Man Domino (Best Donkey?) relaxing in the shade with his human translator Karen)

Eventually, they came to an understanding, though. Daisy still loved Domino, but as a best friend (not a boyfriend!) Her new true love was Chester, who is her soulmate, and a very attentive and well mannered boyfriend. So it was OK for Domino to hang around with the new couple, so long as he respects their loving relationship, he can be friends with both. He realized that he was not actually losing Daisy, he was gaining a new mini horse friend! So, with things looking up for Domino, he finally gave his blessing for the new couple to move on to the natural conclusion of their loving relationship, and agreed to be Chester’s “Best Man” at their wedding! Daisy chose Little Princess, who is the prettiest little pony besides Daisy herself, to be her Maid of Honor. And naturally, since Guiseppe is in charge of everything around Phoenix Equestrian Center, he was asked to officiate at the wedding ceremony. Sugar was the Bridesmaid, and Pocohantas was the flower girl. And so, on June 29th, 2019 Daisy and Chester became horse and wife.

(Maid of Honor Princess, waiting for the Bride)

The ceremony was a mostly traditional Christian wedding. The Groom (Chester) in his bow tie and carrot decorated collar, and Best Man (Domino) in a handsome black bow tie, waited with the Minister (Guiseppe) in his minister’s collar, and the Maid of Honor (Princess) dressed in lovely ribbons and flowers at the end of the Dressage arena. And waited, and waited…Brides! Eventually, she made her spectacular appearance, following the lovely Flower Girl down the aisle. When she saw how handsome Chester looked, she whinnied to him and began to trot towards him. She just could not help herself, she wanted to be with him so badly.

(Chester the Groom, comtemplating his life decision, or GRASS!)

Then the minister spoke some words on the meaning of love and marriage, and the ceremony began. At first, the Bride and Groom were so overcome with excitement and joy and love that they both forgot their vows! Once they were reminded, they each spoke in turn (through their human translators, of course!) Daisy could not wait until the minister got to the “you may kiss the Bride” part of the ceremony, so when it came, she was more than happy to jump to it! Chester was more than happy to oblige, too (wink-wink!).

(Wedding party awaiting the Bride.)

The Bride and Groom greeted all the guests as new Husband and Wife, and then went off on their pastural honeymoon. The reception was held in the office/4-H club room at the lower barn, where they all enjoyed carrot cake and cupcakes and other baked goodies. Everyone had a good time, it was a fun wedding. Please enjoy the photos of this wonderful occaision below.

The reason I’m emailing, aside from saying hi and that I hope you’re doing well, is because with my return to riding a lot of memories of Oxbow have been resurfacing. I wanted to say that I am so grateful for everything you did for me throughout my time at Oxbow. The experience was one of the most defining elements of my life. I attribute my overly zealous work ethic, my blunt/no-nonsense attitude, and my strong leadership skills entirely to the Saturday Program, 4-H, and regular lessons with you. The more experience I gain of the world, the more I realize that Oxbow was truly a unique and special place. You treated us like adults, held us to high standards, and yet allowed us to goof off and have fun. I loved everything about Oxbow and was so sad as things changed and friendships ended over time. But regardless of where we all are now – I wanted to just convey to you how appreciative I am for everything you did.

I keep trying to explain to my husband, Thomas, what my life was like on a daily basis at Oxbow. He was astonished that every week you’d create intricate speadsheets – The Schedule – for us to use throughout the day. There are so many things that, as a kid, I didn’t truly appreciate that you did to corral us all together but now I see the immense amount of work that it all took.”

Sophia Dean – former Saturday program “graduate”

“Thanks so much for having the girls and me to the dinner last night. It is always one of my favorite nights of the year. I love the team work that the Saturday program cultivates, and I love watching the girls recognize the growth they’ve made year to year. It is a one of a kind program, and I know exactly how much hard work it takes to pull it off. As always, it was a night of smiles and laughter in the midst of a very long and cold winter.

Good luck with the spring season and hope to see you at one of the shows this year. “

Marnie

“All of us from West Milford Equestrian Center were very happy with the organization, smooth running of the event and the great stall accommodations during the show. Each time any of us had a question, we were treated with respect and every question was answered thoroughly, politely and with a smile. We were even asked from time to time if there was anything we needed and were offered hay for our horses if needed and assistance when we were moving out on our way home.

The judge, Cheryl Ash, was a delight and since it was the first time I ever did a Fix A Test, I had no idea what to expect. What a treat!!! She was so engaging and her desire for each one of us to do our best and come away with something to work on to improve our horse and ourselves gives me the desire to ride for her again. I look forward to showing her my progress and how much her genuine desire to teach touched me. When ever it is offered, I will always take advantage of the Fix A Test.

Our group looks forward to your October 22 event and I am especially eyeing up your beginner cross country course. It looks like the perfect opportunity to have a bit of fun with my horses.”

Suzanne Wilt – West Milford Equestrian Center

“Over the past five to six years that I’ve been doing clinics at Oxbow, I have found the facility, management, the riding and the horses to continue to improve. There is an evolution to the standard of excellence that everyone at Oxbow is trying to achieve.”
